The MHS Mirror and Riddle staffs for 2016 placed second at IHSA Journalism Sectionals, taking a record-setting 10 categories to state. Two students placed at state — 6th in copy editing and 3rd in sports writing.
The sectional competition team for spring 2015 made up of 17 members of the MHS Mirror and MHS Riddle staffs waits for the opening ceremony to start at Illinois State University. Five students went on to compete at the state level that year, with three placing in the top six in Illinois.

The MHS chapter of Quill and Scroll was revived in order to induct (from left) Kaylie Homann, Kinsey Stapleton, Riley Trotter, Emma Diltz, Lane Plummer, and Sarah Foster into its ranks. Four of the six students went on to pursue degrees or work in journalism.

MHS Mirror staff members reported for and designed an annual magazine for the Mattoon Rotary Club, which allowed the staff to partner with the community.
